Doug Benson

Fan art of Doug Benson. I very much enjoy the Doug Loves Movies podcast, and found “Super High Me” very entertaining. I also really enjoyed him guesting on Joe Rogan’s podcast (which I don’t usually listen to…).

Molly Lewis Haz Toe Shoez and you do not... probably.

If you’ve been following the Toe Shoe saga on Molly Lewis’ episodes of Ken Plume’s  A Bit of a Chat podcast, this will make sense to you. Otherwise, please enjoy the randomness.

Doctor Who BFFs

Oh yes, a new and giddy fan of Doctor Who am I. I am, save the older seasons, caught up to the current (well, minus the newest, I’m not synced up yet with airings).

Doctor Who Donna Noble and Wilford Mott

And somehow, I’d neglected to post this before. This is also Doctor Who fan art. I love Donna Noble SO MUCH.

Queen Duck

Hard to explain, but here I am as a Twitter, Duck, Queen.

Strawberry Cheesecake

Whoa, you guyz. It has been AGES since I drew the sexy. Weird.

Vetruvian Dan

Vetruvian Dan

I just got back a little bit ago from seeing Dan Telfer live (You may know him best from this YouTube clip) at the Cafe Venus and Mars Bar.

What a fun show! Dan is hilarious and nerdy, and angry and vulgar. My kind of show! Before it began, Dove leaned in and whispered to me, pointing out that the two opening comics and Mr. Telfer were behind us talking shop. Silent comedy nerd-girl squee! The bar was pretty great, everything (including the menu) was SPACE themed. So very excellent.

To those ardently following me (HAHAHA ha ha… ha….), this may all be familiar, so just bear with me!

I am a fan of comedy, I always have been. That is a long story for another time and place. I have not, however, managed to choose to go to a stand-up show. Sure, some elements of w00tstock are very stand-up centric, depending on guest, but I’d not been able to attend on my own something purely stand-up oriented. I chaperoned a Kate Clinton show with a buncha students from the college I was attending. While she’s great fun and I’d loved what I’d seen of her on Comedy Central, I wouldn’t have known about the show or been able to afford it otherwise. I was once visiting a friend at her college, and to make up for her forgetting to tell me that Henry Rollins had been doing a show on campus for free, she took me to… to… Alright, no matter how many times I try to remember who it was, I cannot. It was either Elaine Boosler or Rita Rudner. While I know clearly who each person is, I just can’t remember which one we saw.

Anyway, so that is the story of how Dan Telfer took my stand-up show cherry.

Ba-dum-tch.

I made a blog post elsewhere, and have updated it periodically, and it seemed time to put it here as well. It focuses on activism, and my views on a lot of issues, including links to support my points (be it actual credible source or opinion pieces). Comments are off because mostly I’m just expressing my views, and cataloging them for future reference. SOrry if some of the links don’t work, I’ll try to figure that out eventually.

I’m busying getting a new computer running and sorted out, so I’ve been a little inaccessible. Not helping my productivity is that I had to send it back for repairs. I’ll have something fancy to show you once it gets back! In the meantime…

Brainstorming!

Does anyone have any good website suggestions for topic involving developing board games? Specifically tile based things like Settlers of Catan and Carcassone? I’m not sure how to go about coming up with rules and stuff.

So, I’ve been doing this Spoonflower thing for a while, and for Steamcon III I might be getting at least one article of clothing made with fabric I design, and my thought is about maybe making an exclusive design you would have to order from me directly. I dunno, it could just be a passing thought.

I would like 2011 to be the year I finally get software upgrades. I have no idea how to do this, the full Adobe suite is CRAZY ‘spensive. The priority keeps rising, though. I’m still using Photoshop 7, Illustrator 10, and thankfully I at least have InDesign CS2. I do not have Flash, or other media editing softwares. I also would love a font editor- I have none, and have just been relying on free generators, and man is that problematic for actually getting things kerned and proportional. (Not that I don’t still have hardware on my creative wishlist, like a new tablet – mine is almost a decade old and I’ve worn grooves into it – and camera – not so old, but has a few totally dead sensor spots.)

I’d like for 2011 to end up with me having made a lot of paintings. There is a problem here, in terms of equipment more friendly to disability (I’m looking into that already, though), and cost of supplies. What do y’all think of Kickstarter?

Upcoming Events!

I’ll be at Emerald City Comic Con, and I am already spoken for during the following times:

Friday: 2:30pm – 7:oopm
Saturday: 12:00pm – 5:00pm
Sunday: 11:00am – 3:00pm

I also have the good fortune to be attending 2 concerts in March, Paul and Storm and Marian Call. SO EXCITING! I am so, so grateful. With so much time spent trying to take care of my medical issues, and so much time too broke to do anything, being able to get out and enjoy life once in a while is so important to my sanity. Gifts of “stuff” not at all equal to gifts of time-spent-happy.

Anywho… wish me good fortune and creativity this year, eh? :)

Some of you may know that due to WA State’s budget crisis, they’ve had to cut a number of medical programs and a fair amount of financial assistance for those in need. I am one of those in need, and of what is left, I cannot afford or get coverage for dental care. To further complicate things, emergency treatment is only available to treat dental infections, and they will only pull very degraded teeth, there is nothing else they can do, even under charitable care.

In spite of my hygiene efforts, I have a cavity*. I first noticed it – rather inconveniently – after dental coverage was cut off. I’ve been trying to keep it clean, and use medicated mouthwash to prevent infection, but it may not be working, it is starting to hurt when I eat, and feels somewhat raw and irritated when I’m just sitting around minding my own business.

SO, this is a long shot, but I’m throwing this out there in the hopes that if people who can and are feeling generous enough to donate a few bucks, perhaps I can afford to get it taken care of. I would guess something around 200 or 300 total would help get the tooth fixed, and perhaps the very kind dentist I’ve seen in the past will accept something close to that if I can at least pay up front (he is also mere footsteps from where I live, so I won’t have to deal with transportation and other needs).

If you are able, money can be sent to me via PayPal at the address jadaze at hotmail dot com. If I exceed that amount needed, I will use it to buy other medical stuff that the insurance doesn’t cover – like an actual adequate amount of diabetes testing supplies, and (doctor recommended) supplements that help stave off infections – crucial since I can’t take antibiotics without some amount of hospitalization thanks to allergies – acetaminophen, fiber supplements, etc. I’ll also say something as soon as I have enough for the dentist visit, so people can stop donating.

For future reference, I will also likely have no medical coverage or financial assistance after march and until Federal Disability MIGHT start kicking in for me. If you have ideas for how I can raise funds, I would appreciate it. I am still unable to work, and my medical conditions leave me fairly unreliable, but perhaps I can sell art or something. I’ll try to consider options suggested!

Should you wish to pass this on, please use this link.

Thanks for listening.

*Three things are likely culprits. 1) I have a small and oddly shaped bone structure that dentists tend to complain about, the dentist I saw last predicted something like this, no matter how hard I tried to take care of it since even he was having a hard time getting at things with his fancy and special tools. 2) Medication for diabetes might be tweaking things a bit. 3) I likely have a 2nd form of diabetes that affects things as well.

Update: Half way there!

Update #2: Dentist appointment Feb. 3 (unless it becomes urgent)! He is open to negotiation, so hopefully it’ll work out. :: crossed fingers ::

Update #3: I think I have enough now to cover the appointment!

Update #4: The tooth I thought was a problem isn’t – it’s the gums receding due to acidity (not coming from diet, so another marker for Diabetes Insipidus), the wrong toothbrush, and perhaps too harsh a toothpaste. The gum rose high enough to expose the root, hence the hole and pain.

He did express more urgent concern over one really obvious cavity and two that should be done while still small. This lovely dentist said he’ll eat the cost of x-rays (which he did today, just to ensure there aren’t infections lying in wait – and there aren’t!), and fill the 3 teeth for the money I said I had. I went ahead and pre-paid, so we’ll be good to go.

I need to see my regular doctor to evaluate what the dentist should and should not use in terms of injections and stuff (re: my medications and medical conditions), and possibly get him more info so he can make sure it is all done safely. Then, later this month, I go in and he fixes mah grill.

Overall though, I am apparently doing a good job, so it isn’t as crazy as it could be.

Update #5: 3 cavities filled, exposed roots now not exposed, I’m all patched up! Thank you so much everybody!!

Greetings! It’s been a lot of years since I updated the look and feel of this website, so I finally got around to it (with a little help from my friends!). I switched to WordPress, which may be more challenging for me to use, but has some nice features that I hope make it simpler for me to add new content over time.
