Hourly Comic Day 2012

Hourly Comic Day 2012! (Click all the way through for the large size.)

Firstly, Lucy Knisley wins the day!

I didn’t think too much on scale or detail… so I ended up with lots of problems. Maybe next Year I will make a template. Since I wasn’t sure about the text being legible, I didn’t add much, but here are some notes…

Panel #1-3, typical slogs through can’t-create blocks, and thoughts of putting my eye out.

Panel #4-5, I was reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

Open Letter to John Green:

Thank you. Thank you for “The Fault in Our Stars”. Thank you for your part in building the Nerdfighter community. Thank you for being BFFs with Hank, as well as being his brother. Thank you for making an adorable kid, caring for and loving him, putting even more of the Green brand of awesome into the world, hopefully leading to many generations of fighters of world suck.

Panel #6, didn’t work. Off to bed.

Panel #7-9, At the end of a week long circus of rotating pain and medical issues, this night, my back just would not stop seizing up. A bit after 7, I managed to nod off, but was up again at 9 when my back, belly, and knees became unbearable and woke me up. So I sat up for a while on the edge of my bed. For some reason it is the only comfortable seat in the house right now.

Panel #10, Woke up, brushed my teeth, then realizing blood was spilling out of my mouth. Periodontal problems recur now and then (I do what I can, but no dental coverage, and still lacking a diagnosis otherwise for pH issues), but this much blood was kind of new.

Panel #11-12, SO hungry, but too tired and sore to do much cooking. I’ve also decided that the sammich shop next door is the best sammiches I’ve had since living on the east coast.

Panel #13-17, pretty self-explanatory.

Panel #18, Dammit, Roderick. (Listening to YouTube posts from his recent show in NYC.)

Previously: 2010, 2011.

Greg Proops

I was fortunate enough to see Greg Proops live recently. I am very much a fan of his podcast, “The Smartest Man in the World“. This fan art is based on a bit from the “Diamonds” episode.

I made a wallpaper version for you on a new fabric design I created. I don’t know why this feels so adorable to me… The design is very tiny for a contest, but once the contest is over, I may enlarge it a little. The giant bacon design is ready for order, though I think I’ll have to make a rotated version as well. My idea was something that would be more abstract when worn, or could be made into large bacon pillows.

Meager offerings this time. Sorry… I’ve just been so drained. There was a large and overly complicated snow storm, sleepless nights caused by criminals trying to burn down the building I live in and otherwise stir up trouble, medical woes and horrifying procedures, and a heavy case of grey season blahs. So it goes.

Breaking Merlin's Context

In episode 12 of the Roderick on the Line podcast, John decides to break the 4th wall to address the listeners. Merlin is dismayed, as are we two listeners, apparently! I have also taken to listening to episodes twice. Normally I don’t do that with podcasts, but it moves SO FAST, sometimes I do not have time to fill my index cards with notes.

Sadly, I forgot to fanart bomb with Paul Sabourin this time. Maybe I’ll find a way to put him into the next things twice.

In other news…

If you are a fan of Ball-Joint dolls, you my be interested in this convention that I did some art for!

I am having to move very suddenly. The building we’re in was doing earthquake retrofits and renovations, but things went sort of sideways, and I had about a week and a half to try to find a new place, pack, schedule movers…. CRAZY TIMES. Anyway… the move is requiring quite a loss of stuff and storage space. Some features also differ, making needs for some items where there hadn’t been before (oh, and while on a bus line, I am no longer near ANYTHING where I can “go run and pick up” stuff). Obviously I am short on funds, and cleaned out everything I had doing crazy things like paying the phone bill. EXCITEMENT! So, should you be in a very giving mood, here’s a buncha stuff I’ll need in the new place (and I do this so you can buy a thing directly if you are vastly uncomfortable sending funds to me):

Moving Wishlist.

Now, certainly I am going bonkers trying to figure out how to get stuff like this so I don’t have to live out of cardboard boxes forever (it’s cute when you’re 25 and able-bodied, not so much when you’re 37 and not so able). There MIGHT also be something coming up in a month or so* where you’ll want to buy stuff from me. OH THIS TIMING CURSE. So, please choose accordingly, pass it around. I need everything I can get to help. I already have a growing list of needs I cannot keep up with (like a winter coat, the gauzy long shirt I have ain’t doin’ it, and a back-up drive so I don’t loose data if my system fries, as it seems inclined to do if I can’t get it fixed), and I desperately want to get organized for my sanity and health.

I also plan an eBay batch when I get settled. I have so much art I never need to see again and I cannot afford the space. – I could practically fill that giant file cabinet on the wishlist.

UPDATE #4: We cannot afford a vacuum, and we will really need on in a couple of weeks. I know the one I choose seems pricey, but it really takes care of all the needs and challenges I have in keeping the carpet clean.

*About this thing. I cannot say yet – particularly as it is not completely confirmed, I can just say it could make for some tantalizing holiday shopping. I am a temptress, yes. (Please be laughing now, I sure am!)

Also, I will be back online after Monday.

Alrighty! Enough pleading today! ON TO ARTS.

Sara Chicazul

The lovely, the creative, the kind Chicazul!

Plumeiverse

Based on the episode of A Bit of a Chat with Ken Plume with John Hodgman making his 4th appearance (special surprise moments long guest Paul F. Tompkins ). This is based on discussion of an alternate Plumiverse that they discussed.

Molly Bloodyfingers

On another episode of that podcast, Molly Lewis had a 5th appearance in which they talked about a potential roller derby name. “Molly Bloodyfingers, Queen of the Uke”.

And this is what Paul and Storm say Marian Call does in Alaska – Breakfast with Bears!

That is all for now!

I went back and revisited my Legend of Neil fanarts, hoping to maybe be considered for DVD inclusion. Do they seem worthy of doing something similar to what I did with the GeekGirlCon Concert fanart? I mean, medical stuff that isn’t covered by insurance ain’t cheap, we’re being forced to move due to construction, and there’s just a lot of crazy stuff going on I can’t do anything about. Needs just keep piling up. *shrug*

Legend of Niel

Speaking of the concert…

Geek Girl Con Concert

I’m really hoping I can get tickets to see Marc Maron in November. He’s playing at The Neptune, a sea-themed theater so…

Marc Maron

There’s a neat little restaurant nearby called “Nook“. I kind of love them (locally owned, tasty, cheap-ish, friendly couple who make/run the place), so I made this for them…

Nook

AAaand lastly…

Steamcon! This weekend! I don’t know if I’ll be able to get printer ink, but if I can, I will try to make 50 or so buttons to have as freebies for people checking out my art at the art show! I feel like I made 100 last year, and they obviously evaporated. I would like to do more, but I made not have enough supplies left. I also may not be able to, because my ulnar nerve entrapment is going cray-zeee (the machine is all manual).

If you want to Tumblr this : I have posted it there as well.

New fabrics

In other news… These are new fabrics up for sale! I am in love with this batch!

Storm and a Weeping Angel

Last and never least, Storm DiCostanzo and Weeping Angels, since he recently got to this point in Doctor Who.

Shoe fund update: I tried on a dozen pairs, nothing worked (apparently I am firmly a size 11 now, and a wide width, AND my left foot is taller – from swelling or deformity? – than my right), and I am currently waiting for some special order exchanges. I’m trying to stick with that initial budget of $65, but man… you know some options run at almost $200 bucks?? I may as well be wearing precious gemstone studded designer shoes! Sheesh. The docs say I should replace my shoes every 6 months to a year, but wow. I miss cheap Payless shoes, boy oh boy.

Geek Girl Con Concert

Do you like this fan art of Marian Call, Molly Lewis and The Doubleclicks? Would you like the full image in high rez for wallpaper? Then please consider donating or supporting me in some way. I did manage to aquire tickets for the con, the concert tickets should be gifted me today as a b-day gift, but as I’ve mentioned in previous rants, I am in need of new ortopedically inclined shoes – I’d like to walk around to things without my feet rubbing raw, you know?

You can donate via Revolution by clicking this link. Or if you must, PayPal with the e-mail address in this link (P.S. It has been suggested that Paypal donors select the Personal option, then Gift so there are no unexpected fees.).

Whatever it is you do, try to send a note that lets me know what you did and what e-mail address I should send the file to (and if you want ye olde 1024×768 or 1920×1080). If you use donations, often there somewhere in the submission forms to leave a note.

Update #1: (Sorry, was very sleepy and ill last night, forgot more details!) Concert Info, and Tickets.

Shoe fund currently at $20. The goal is so I can afford something like this or this, it really depends on what I can find that feels right and meets doctors’ requirements. I currently have been relying on a pair of Merrells because they suit my needs pretty well, but I had to sacrifice my pink toes. I also plan to go to my favorite shoe store with the excellent return and exchange policy, because they offer decent discounts.

Update #2: Shoe fund is up to $45!

Update #3: Shoe fund is up to $60!

Update #4: $65! Shoes tried on (more than a dozen!), bought (not quite enough funds, but I pinched some pennies), ready for return/exchange, special order in process. Complicated!

I feel like I should have more to show, but… this is what you get! If I MUST have one, I wish I could just get a simple cold instead of a cold and then respiratory drama for a month.

Were-Jade

This is the sort of thing that happens when there is both a full moon, and an internet argument I engage in.

Gnome Me

Then I was dared to draw myself with an epic beard.

Aisha Tyler

The Indoor Kids also recently had Aisha Tyler as a guest. She is a boatload of fun! I’ve been enjoying her appearances on other podcasts, and her very own new-ish podcast Girl on Guy.

Baconfest Queen

So that there is the Queen of Baconfest Atlanta wearing my bacon fabric! So jazzed, you guys!

Spoonflower DressSpoonflower Quilt

Two awesome projects featuring fabrics of mine!

Steampunk OctopII

One of my most recent Spoonflower designs. It isn’t up for sale yet. I’m trying to wait and see if I can get enough credits for another batch of proofs (And when I do, this is the batch I’m planning.). Initially I made it for the Ditsy Prints contest.

*So, I’ve mostly been stuck at home sick for a while. I’ve got some stuff to do in October, but I really, really want to get out more. There are a TON of great shows coming to town in the next 2 months. I’m not beyond begging, particularly when things start reaching extremes of me not leaving the house for a week or more at a time! I mean, in the last week, I only left the house once. In the week before that? Twice for urgent-ish errands. The next two weeks (which includes my birthday) give me little opportunity to go out as well. I know things are tough all over, but I could use the physiological fuel or going OUT and doing a THING, you know?
