Hourly Comic 2011

I participated in Hourly Comics Day yesterday! This was my effort last year. I spent a little more time polishing it this year, which is why you didn’t get it until today.

Also, to be fair, there was also arguing on the internet, but I thought it might be boring to draw it again. *cough*

Scott Thompson

I’ve been enjoying Scott Thompson’s new podcast. After listening to it, I have a whole new respect and admiration for Bellini as well. (I should also note if you’re not familiar with his comedy, Scott is generally NSFW.)

UPDATE: Please check out Episode 12! They discuss my fan art, but they also are having a little art contest that sounds like great fun!

Update #2: Bellini featured the art in an article for Fab Magazine!

Enchanted Deer

Enchanted Doll is having a contest to win a doll. This was my entry. I doubt I even have the slightest chance, but it was a fun challenge!

Commander

Inspired by The Long Winters’ “The Commander Thinks Aloud”, it is an awesome, awesome song and I love it. I especially LOVE this version of John Roderick performing it on the JoCo cruise. I missed some of the details the first few times, so I suggest min. ~3-8 of this angle as well.

I should also note I’ve been making little tweaks to the site here and there and updating the site some. I took down the ads because they have never generated a single cent to help cover the cost of keeping the site up. I also feel like the traffic they generated was not so useful, and people probably came here looking for the wrong thing. Oh well. Moving on!

Some of you may know that due to WA State’s budget crisis, they’ve had to cut a number of medical programs and a fair amount of financial assistance for those in need. I am one of those in need, and of what is left, I cannot afford or get coverage for dental care. To further complicate things, emergency treatment is only available to treat dental infections, and they will only pull very degraded teeth, there is nothing else they can do, even under charitable care.

In spite of my hygiene efforts, I have a cavity*. I first noticed it – rather inconveniently – after dental coverage was cut off. I’ve been trying to keep it clean, and use medicated mouthwash to prevent infection, but it may not be working, it is starting to hurt when I eat, and feels somewhat raw and irritated when I’m just sitting around minding my own business.

SO, this is a long shot, but I’m throwing this out there in the hopes that if people who can and are feeling generous enough to donate a few bucks, perhaps I can afford to get it taken care of. I would guess something around 200 or 300 total would help get the tooth fixed, and perhaps the very kind dentist I’ve seen in the past will accept something close to that if I can at least pay up front (he is also mere footsteps from where I live, so I won’t have to deal with transportation and other needs).

If you are able, money can be sent to me via PayPal at the address jadaze at hotmail dot com. If I exceed that amount needed, I will use it to buy other medical stuff that the insurance doesn’t cover – like an actual adequate amount of diabetes testing supplies, and (doctor recommended) supplements that help stave off infections – crucial since I can’t take antibiotics without some amount of hospitalization thanks to allergies – acetaminophen, fiber supplements, etc. I’ll also say something as soon as I have enough for the dentist visit, so people can stop donating.

For future reference, I will also likely have no medical coverage or financial assistance after march and until Federal Disability MIGHT start kicking in for me. If you have ideas for how I can raise funds, I would appreciate it. I am still unable to work, and my medical conditions leave me fairly unreliable, but perhaps I can sell art or something. I’ll try to consider options suggested!

Should you wish to pass this on, please use this link.

Thanks for listening.

*Three things are likely culprits. 1) I have a small and oddly shaped bone structure that dentists tend to complain about, the dentist I saw last predicted something like this, no matter how hard I tried to take care of it since even he was having a hard time getting at things with his fancy and special tools. 2) Medication for diabetes might be tweaking things a bit. 3) I likely have a 2nd form of diabetes that affects things as well.

Update: Half way there!

Update #2: Dentist appointment Feb. 3 (unless it becomes urgent)! He is open to negotiation, so hopefully it’ll work out. :: crossed fingers ::

Update #3: I think I have enough now to cover the appointment!

Update #4: The tooth I thought was a problem isn’t – it’s the gums receding due to acidity (not coming from diet, so another marker for Diabetes Insipidus), the wrong toothbrush, and perhaps too harsh a toothpaste. The gum rose high enough to expose the root, hence the hole and pain.

He did express more urgent concern over one really obvious cavity and two that should be done while still small. This lovely dentist said he’ll eat the cost of x-rays (which he did today, just to ensure there aren’t infections lying in wait – and there aren’t!), and fill the 3 teeth for the money I said I had. I went ahead and pre-paid, so we’ll be good to go.

I need to see my regular doctor to evaluate what the dentist should and should not use in terms of injections and stuff (re: my medications and medical conditions), and possibly get him more info so he can make sure it is all done safely. Then, later this month, I go in and he fixes mah grill.

Overall though, I am apparently doing a good job, so it isn’t as crazy as it could be.

Update #5: 3 cavities filled, exposed roots now not exposed, I’m all patched up! Thank you so much everybody!!

Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman Gilligan's Island

During Hollywood Babble On‘s New Year’s Eve episode, there was a brief mention of Kevin and Ralph in dresses. If you know me, you know that I don’t need much prompting to imagine boys in dresses ::grin:: Ralph has a tendency to make somewhat out-of-date references to pop culture, so it seemed only natural to draw them as Mary Ann and Ginger from Gilligan’s Island.

Mike Phirman Human Smile

I have trouble not declaring my love for Mike Phirman daily. I have never been disappointed with anything I’ve seen of him. After the JoCo Cruise, he was called “The Human Smile”, possibly by Kevin Murphy. It is hard to disagree with that assessment! It was also his birthday recently, this was to celebrate it.

Greg Proops

Greg Proops has a new podcast called The Smartest Man in the World. It is delightful!

D & G

In a not-podcast related bit of art… Dolce and Gabbana’s Spring/Summer line is GORGEOUS, and I wish they had plus sized versions (not that I could ever afford it, but I love the line).

In other news: I will be attending ECCC, I’d love to hear if anyone else is going! I don’t know if I’ll be up to a meet-up or not (dunno yet programming schedule or how long it’ll take to plot of the help I’ll be getting with disabled access), but who knows!

Kevin Pollak Chat Show

Kevin Pollak Chat Show

Fan of the Kevin Pollak Chat Show? If not, you should be! Charming interviews with awesome people, what is not to love? I first drew Kevin and Jaime Fox, then tried to go for the crew as well, but I was suffering from Google Fail, and wasn’t sure if I had the right people, and I know I’m missing some. Anywho… Since they seem to fan of both The Simpsons and Mad Men over at the Chat Show, I decided to mash-up the themes.

Kevin Smith and Jennifer Schwalbach

Kevin Smith is doing a Podcast with his lovely wife called “Plus One“, and they’re really pretty adorable.

Paul, Storm, and the Bumbergiff

In Paul and Storm‘s 103rd the question was asked – what the heck is a Bumbergiff? I couldn’t find the answer, aside from Bumber meaning Umbrella… So naturally I imagined an umbrella being used as a boat and old timey Paul (with his new beard!) and Storm.

That’s all for now! Happy New Year!

Jasika Nicole and Astrid from Fringe

Jasika Nicole as Astrid from Fringe! I love Fringe. I hope they stay on the air long enough to finish the story!

Art by Jade Gordon

My BFF’s little kid said, referring to her fist, “this is the train because you are the train track. Choo choo!” and proceeded to beat her mother in the face.

Having done some parenting, I sympathize with how painful it is when very little kids do things like this, but at the same time, it is so darn hard not to laugh until you cry at something so outrageous from a little kid.

So… now this is an in joke with my other friends, when we get mad at each other in a silly way, we just yell “CHOO CHOO MOTHER#@&*$#”… It amuses us at least. *cough* I bet Sam Jackson would be proud.

Marc maron

Do you listen to Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast? Of course you do. This was inspired by a morning rant Marc had on Twitter.

Kevin Smith

In Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier’s SModcast #149, Kevin talked about the effects during the Quidditch scenes of the most recent Harry Potter movie being really believable. I immediately picked up a pencil.

I was inspired to draw a little Fatshion.

That’s it for today! Have a lovely Holiday!

A little angelic/fairy art for you, in a somewhat seasonal mood.

If you can’t tell by the thumbnail, that is NSFW!

You see, the creator of the amazing adult’s only webcomic Oglaf got complaints of too many dicks in the comic, making it “gay”, and this is my response to that.

In other news, check out the Store/Shopping Links in the menu, I added a couple more stores with stuff you may find appealing.

It was also Molly Lewis‘ birthday, and it turns out that Nov. 23 was also the birthday of Boris  Karloff and Harpo Marx… so…

I’m trying to get things updated now that the site is fixed! I’ve added a quick gallery for fabrics, and I can finally easily put up images again!

I was listening to A Bit of a Chat with Ken Plume, with guest Jonathan Coulton. There was talk of how the upcoming album would be lacking monkeys. This is a sad monkey waiting by the phone.

If you enjoy that podcast, I highly, highly recommend checking out Mr. Plume’s chats with Mike Phirman,  and Adam Savage. Really, there and many amazing interviews that he’s done!
